If you've ever sat in the comfort of your favorite chair or sofa and wished you could somehow parlay your love of soaps into a paying job, here's some exciting news: you can -- with a little help from soapcentral.com. As we continue to grow the soapcentral.com web site, opportunities will occasionally present themselves for qualified soap fans to become part of our team.

Daily Recaps

Have you ever missed your favorite soap because the power's been out or your VCR ate your tape? Even in this high-tech age, there's always a chance that something will come between you and an episode of your favorite show. For the past 15 years, we've been providing detailed, daily recaps for all of the soaps.

If you have strong writing skills and can meet deadlines, you may want to consider providing recaps for the soapcentral.com site. Interested? The first step should be to review the recaps that are already posted to the site - don't overlook this step. [Click here to go to our recaps page.] This will give you a good feel for the length and style of what we're looking for.

Here are some other tips:
  • Recaps should be written in the past tense.

  • Rather than recapping the show as it plays out chronologically, recaps should have similar scenes lumped together. It's not always possible to do this throughout a recap because people will pop in and out of scenes, but it's easier for readers to follow a recap when similar scenes throughout the show are pieced together into a few paragraphs.

  • Recaps on soapcentral.com are designed to be neutral and news-like. There is to be no commentary or personal opinion within the recap.

  • Recaps are due by 1:00am Eastern on the day following the broadcast of that episode. Monday's recap, for example, is due just after midnight -- Tuesday morning, 1:00am Eastern.

Currently, we are seeking recappers for the following soaps:
All My Children
Days of our Lives
General Hospital
The Young and the Restless

If you are still interested, the next step would be to provide us with a sample recap using the guidelines mentioned above. Your recap will be reviewed and we will contact you if we are interested in exploring a possible relationship with you. Please email your recaps to us by clicking here. Compensation is offered to those providing recaps and will be discussed upon submission of a suitable sample recap.

Two Scoops

Every week, our Two Scoops staff provides a witty, in-depth look at the previous week on each soap in our Two Scoops commentary column. If you're a die-hard soap fan and able to provide an entertaining commentary without being overly negative, this might be something that you'd want to consider.
  • Applicant must have strong writing skills
  • Applicant should have a working understanding of HTML
  • Two Scoops columns are due by 11:00pm Eastern each Saturday.

Currently, we are seeking poll coordinators for the following soaps:
All My Children
General Hospital

If you are still interested, the next step would be to provide us with a sample recap using the guidelines mentioned above. Your recap will be reviewed and we will contact you if we are interested in exploring a possible relationship with you. Please email your sample column to us by clicking here. Compensation is offered to those providing Two Scoops columns and will be discussed upon submission of a suitable sample column.

Who's Who Character Profiles

If you are a soap fan who believes that the viewers know the characters better than many of the shows' writers, this may be something that will interest you. Our Who's Who character profiles provide an in-depth look at the characters on the soaps. The profiles have everything covered -- from crimes to hospitalizations to the many, many marriages and affairs.

If you have strong writing skills and know your history, you may want to consider providing character profiles for the soapcentral.com site. Interested? The first step should be to review the profiles that are already posted to the site. This will give you a good feel for the length and style of what we're looking for.

Here are some other tips:
  • Ideally, you would be responsible for the creation of profiles for new characters and, as needed, profiles for past characters that become relevant in current storylines. For example, the long-lost child of a former character arrives in town. It may be helpful to have a profile for the former character. Additionally, existing profiles will need to be updated as characters marry, divorce, have children, and, inevitably, commit crimes.

  • The Brief History for each character should be written in the past tense and kept brief. The section should not include history of other characters and doesn't need to be so detailed that the history becomes long-winded and boring.

  • There is no deadline for the profiles, however, arrangements should be made to provide a set number of profiles on a regular, perhaps weekly, basis.

Currently we are seeking character profiles for the following soaps:
All My Children
The Bold and the Beautiful
Days of our Lives
General Hospital

If you are still interested, the next step would be to provide us with a sample character profile. Before doing so, please email us by clicking here. Compensation may be offered to those providing character profiles updates and will be discussed upon submission of a suitable sample profile.

Poll Coordinator

This shouldn't come as a surprise -- but soap fans are very opinionated. Because of that, they are also looking for a chance to weigh in with their thoughts on a variety of issues. To help keep fans satisfied, we are looking for creative fans who can come up with topical and interesting show-related opinion questions on a regular basis. Questions may relate to current news or storyline events.

Currently, we are seeking poll coordinators for the following soaps:
All My Children
The Bold and the Beautiful
Days of our Lives
General Hospital
One Life to Live
The Young and the Restless

Please email us if you are interested, along with an example of a poll (with responses) for your soap of interest by clicking here. If you are interested in providing polls for more than one soap, please let us know each of the soaps that you follow. Compensation is offered to those providing regularly posted polls and will be discussed upon submission of a suitable sample poll.

---> Ratings Updater

Every week, the Nielsen organization releases the latest ratings for each soap opera. We're looking for someone who has an understanding of HTML and can create a web page with the latest rating information for each soap and network, as well as the combined total for all the soaps currently on the air.
  • Applicant should have a working understanding of HTML
  • Attention to detail is important, since the numeric values are extremely important
  • Applicant must have an understanding of math skills, including averages

Compensation is offered for this position.
