The evening started full of hope for OLTL fans. After all, the show already won four technical Emmys, which was four more awards than they'd won the year before. After Sarah Brown (Carly, GH) had won her third Emmy, this one for Outstanding Supporting Actress, OLTL's first chance at an award arrived in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. Timothy Gibbs (Kevin, OLTL) was up against Steve Burton (Jason, GH), Cristian LeBlanc (Michael, Y&R), Kristoff St. John (Neil, Y&R) and Shemar Moore (Malcolm, Y&R). As one of Gibb's submitted clips was shown, of Kevin telling off everyone at Thanksgiving dinner in the wake of Grace's death, a win seemed likely. But when the award was announced, the Emmy went to Shemar Moore of Y&R.
Before her category came up, Erin Torpey (Jessica) joined Jason-Shane Scott (Will) and David Fumero (Cristian) on-stage to introduce clips of the winners from some of the technical awards previously awarded.
Then it was time for the
Outstanding Younger Actress Emmy to be awarded. Erin Torpey's fellow nominees were Adrienne Frantz (Amber, B&B), Ashley Jones (Megan, Y&R), Heather Tom (Victoria, Y&R) and Camryn Grimes (Cassie, Y&R). But what some considered to be OLTL's best chance for an acting Emmy slipped away as Camryn Grimes' name was called.
Immediately afterwards, James DePaiva (Max) and Kassie DePaiva (Blair) appeared to introduce clips for more technical awards. They were on and off so quickly that you could wonder if it was only your eyes playing tricks on you, but yes, Kassie DePaiva had cut her hair.
Back to the awards, next up for OLTL was
Outstanding Lead Actor and nominee Robert S. Woods (Bo). Woods faced tremendous competition, all of whom, like Woods, had previous Emmy wins. When the winner was announced, the award went to Anthony Geary (Luke, GH), his second win in two years.
Hillary B. Smith's (Nora) category came next,
Outstanding Lead Actress. Her fellow nominees were Finola Hughes (Alex, AMC), Susan Flannery (Stephanie, B&B), Jeanne Cooper (Kathering, Y&R) and Jess Walton (Jill, Y&R). And the Emmy goes to.... Susan Flannery of
The Bold and the Beautiful.
OLTL's last chance for an Emmy was for
Outstanding Drama Series. Even the fact that the show was nominated was an accomplishment because ususally the same four shows, GH, AMC, Y&R and DAYS are nominated year after year. Throughout the night, Linda Dano (Rae) had been introducing clips for the four nominated shows, which was only fitting since she had recently appeared on three out of the four show. The actual award was announced by Susan Lucci and the Emmy went to General Hospital.
