Brief Character History
Robin sought Patrick out when Noah Drake admitted he couldn't perform the surgery needed to save Jason's life. Patrick initially refused to do the surgery because of his father Noah's, but Carly, Sam and Robin managed to convince him to do it by insinuating that he couldn't. Patrick was successful in performing Jason's surgery, but Robin and the others accused him of being cold and heartless because he didn't have much of a bedside manner. Robin tried to prod him for information on his relationship with Noah and what made it fall apart, but Patrick wouldn't answer her questions, although he later made a cryptic remark about falling into a bottle when the doctor gets attached to a patient and they die. Even though Patrick enjoyed playing games with Robin to the extent that he pretended to be sleeping with Carly to annoy her, his feelings for Robin continued to grow. Robin tried to deny her attraction to Patrick but it was a losing battle. Their feelings were tested when, during surgery on an Aids patient, Patrick cut himself and was exposed to the deadly virus. Robin proved to be a tower of strength for Patrick during that time and the two became lovers. Patrick would eventually receive the good news that he wasn't infected with the HIV-virus.
Patrick and Robin's relationship was not an easy one. Despite their deep love for each other, Patrick balked at the idea of fatherhood. This became painfully clear during a pregnancy scare. Realizing that Patrick would never give her the family that Robin desperately wanted, Robin decided to break things off with Patrick and find a sperm donor to give her the child she desperately wanted. Patrick was forced to stand on the sidelines and watch. He tried moving on with nurse, Leyla Mir but he couldn't. His heart belonged to Robin. When Robin's cousin, Georgie, was brutally murdered by the Text Message Killer, Patrick was there for her. They made love after the memorial service but Robin realized that nothing had changed. This was driven painfully home for Robin when Patrick suggested that they table all talk of babies for one year to focus on their relationship as a couple. Robin was tempted until she realized that once the year was up, Patrick wasn't willing to consider starting a family with her. As much as it hurt the both of them, Robin forced Patrick to accept that it was over between them. A couple of months later, Robin announced that she was pregnant. Patrick immediately assumed that she had found a sperm donor even though he had secretly confided to fellow doctor that the condom had broke the last time that he made love to Robin.
