SUMMER HERO: General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher takes on an exciting second career

Newly returned General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher (Jasper Jacks) won't just be on television screens this summer. He's also going to be helping save lives off the coast of California -- which, coincidentally, is what led to his return to Port Charles.

He may be a daytime heartthrob, but that hasn't stopped General Hospital star Ingo Rademacher (Jasper Jacks) from pursuing other dreams. The actor just shared on social media that he is now an official lifeguard in Los Angeles.

Rademacher took to Instagram with the exciting news that he has graduated from Los Angeles County Lifeguards, a division of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, and will now be hard at work keeping the beaches of the L.A. area as safe as possible.

"Today I graduated from @lacolifeguards academy. I have to say it was one of my proudest moments to date," he shared. "To now be part of this team of dedicated lifeguards is truly an honor."

Though he has made acting his profession of choice, Rademacher is a natural fit for the job of lifeguard because of his history of living near the ocean. The German native moved to Australia when he was just ten years old, and since moving to the United States, he has lived in both Hawaii and Los Angeles. He's also had a long affair with water sports, competing in the Lifeguard's King's Race in Honolulu for four consecutive years and ranking 80th SUP racer in the world in 2014.

Funny enough, the actor's participation in the Los Angeles County Lifeguards had a hand in his return to General Hospital earlier this year. The organization required a background check, as well as professional references, so Rademacher had to text GH executive producer Frank Valentini to ask if he could list him and the show as a reference. During the conversation, Valentini asked Rademcher how things were going over at The Bold and the Beautiful, where he was playing Thorne Forrester.

"I said, 'Well, I'm actually not doing the show anymore,' -- because it wasn't out in the press yet," Rademacher shared with TV Insider. "And I think a month later or something like that [Frank] texted me when we were in Hawaii, and he said, 'Do you want to come back to the show? Would you consider coming back, either for short or for long?' And I said, 'I'd love to come back as a permanent,' and boom, there you go. I'm back!"
