Richards Out; Maxie to Be Recast

by Dan J Kroll

In a stunning turn of events, eight-year General Hospital veteran Robyn Richards (Maxie Jones) has been let go.

According to a GH insider, Richards' exit is storyline dictated and not tied to any performance issues. After Richards' exits, Maxie will suddenly be aged to around 20 years of age.

The sudden aging of a younger character is nothing new in the soap opera world. All My Children's Bianca Montgomery was born on-screen on February 8th, 1988. This year, however, the character is celebrating her 18th birthday. Over on The Young and the Restless, Billy Abbott was born in 1993 and is currently in high school. Y&R's Phillip Chancellor IV, however, was born in the late 1980s, but is only about 11 years of age.

Richards is the fourth actress (counting the two sets of twins to have played Maxie in her infancy as a single performer) to have played Maxie. She also by far the longest-running actress in the role.

Chelsea and Kahley Cuffs played an infant Maxie from 1990 to 1992. Jessica and Ashley Clark held the role from 1992 to 1993. Elaine Silver held the role briefly in 1993 before Richards took over the part.

Newcomer Danica Stewart will assume the role of Maxie from Richards beginning March 13th.
