After three years and numerous awards, a change is coming to the General Hospital writing team.

Head writer Robert Guza Jr. and co-head writer Meg Bennett have notified show executives that they plan to depart. "It's been a great ride," says Guza in a release, "but we feel that it's time to move on."

This is not the first time that Guza has come and gone as top scribe for the show. He rejoined the writing staff in 1997 after a several-year hiatus. Guza's other writing credits include the now-defunct Santa Barbara, for which he won two Daytime Emmy awards, Melrose Place and Models, Inc. He also co-created Sunset Beach.

In addition to writing for Generations, Santa Barbara, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, Bennett also has some soap acting in her background. Bennett appeared as Liza on Search for Tomorrow, Megan on Santa Barbara and Julia on The Young and the Restless.

Together, Guza and Bennett helped power General Hospital to the 1999 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series. The soap was nominated in the writing category in each of the years the two helmed the show.

No departure date has been set for the pair nor have any replacements been tapped. ABC offered no comment on Guza and Bennett's departures.
