At A Glance
A native of New York City, Callahan moved west to attend the University of California, Berkeley, as a pre-law student. After working through college as a bartender, he landed a job as a nightclub manager. He then decided upon a career in entertainment.

Callahan started his soap opera career as Leo Russell, a master masseur, on General Hospital. He followed that up with a two-year appearance as Eric Stavros, the playboy son of Cesar Romero, on the primetime serial, Falcon Crest. Callahan returned to daytime in 1989 with a role on Days of our Lives, followed by a run on Santa Barbara.

Callahan may, however, be best known for his long-running role as Edmund Grey on All My Children. Callahan appeared on the show from 1992 through 2005.

In addition to his serial work, Callahan had a recurring role on the ABC series, Our Family Honor; and made numerous guest appearances on prime-time series, including Murder, She Wrote, Three's Company, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Fantasy Island, and Hotel. He was also featured in the made-for-television movies, M.A.D.D. and When She Says No.

John is an avid golfer, enjoys softball, reading and traveling, and is active in several charities.

In November 1996, John married his on-screen wife Eva LaRue (Maria Santos) in a private wedding in Hawaii. The two separated in 2004.
