Brief Character History
Oscar, better known as Oz, was born and primarily raised in Atlantic City by his mother and his father, a small-timer. After Oz' mother died when he was 15, his father decided to move the family to Vegas so he could own a major casino. Initially Oz learned the casino business from his father, but when his father died two years before Oz showed up in Los Angeles, Oz took over the day to day operations. Unfortunately, the mob in Las Vegas wanted to control Oz' casino like they controlled every other casino.
Oz was first seen is Los Angeles calling his uncle, Massimo Marone, from a public phone, asking if he could come over, because he needed help. Mass hung up on him after telling Oz that he was a legitimate businessman and wanted no part of Oz' world. Oz called back, begging him for help. Mass still refused, and moments later, shots rang out. Oz was taken into the emergency ward without identification, and only Massimo's number in his pocket. The first person he really met in L.A. was med student Bridget Forrester. She was there when he woke, and he startled her by grabbing her to ask where Paolo was. Bridget takes off, and Oz tries to find Paolo on his own. Just then, Mass comes in, to tell Oz that Paolo is dead as a result of Oz having followed in his father's crooked footsteps. Mass then leaves, just as a hitman comes to finish Oz off, and ends up taking Bridget hostage. Oz is in no shape to help, but luckily, Bridget is able to take care for herself. The two settle their earlier dispute, and begin a tentative friendship.
Oz is then moved to a new room due to a bed shortage, where he's placed with Amber (it is against hospital policy, but necessary due to lack of room). Neither of them are thrilled to be sharing a room. The curtain between the two is pulled, and Oz can't see what's going on with Amber, but when he hears her talking about her son with a voice he recognizes, he starts to pay attention, and announces himself to Deacon. Years earlier, Oz and his father had kicked Deacon out of Vegas for cheating in the casinos and stealing chips. Deacon was far more crooked than Oz could ever have been! Amber is overjoyed to hear this and wants Oz to help her get her son back, but Oz says he wants nothing to do with her scheming. Bridget saves him from Amber, but shocks him when she admits she was married to Deacon. Oscar admits that at one time he and Deacon were good friends and Oz even got him a job at his father's casino, until Deacon started embezzling funds from them. He shares with Bridget his dream of owning his own club. He can't stop thinking about it after talking to her, and decides to do it...he buys The Lair, and turns it into Ozzz.
Oz makes plans for the grand-opening of Ozzz, which includes trying to get a major local talent to perform...Macy Alexander, now Macy Sharpe. After promising Deacon and Macy he'll pay her upfront and let them know if there are any problems with his past, Oz lines up Macy for opening night. As Oz is getting ready for his big night, he is confronted with two men from his past: hired killer Scarface, who tried to kill Oz in the hospital, and his boss, Jimmy Walton. The two want a piece of the Ozzz action, but Oz tells them to get out of his club. They tell him he'll regret it. Keeping his promise to Deacon, he calls, letting him know he needs to talk to him before Macy goes on-stage. When the club opens, with Macy singing, it's a huge success. The place is packed, and Macy gives an excellent performance. Oz is enjoying everything when he happens to glance up at the chandelier...to see Scarface sabotaging it! Although Oz tries to get to Macy he is unsuccessful, and the chandelier comes crashing down on her. She is immediately rushed to the hospital, and Deacon blames Oz for his wife's near death experience.
Deacon isn't the only one who blames Oz...Oz blames himself as well. Bridget tries to comfort him at the club, but he's inconsolable. Even though he turned the men in, he feels responsible for what happened to Macy. With Bridget's help, he goes to the hospital to offer his apologies to a comatose Macy, barely escaping before Deacon can see him. He returns to the club, determined to close it forever and shut it down, when Amber shows up. Initially she sings for him, but that doesn't do any good. Then she puts on a 'topless' magic show (as she says, 'he wishes!'). Her acts don't convince Oz to hire her, but they do remind him how much the club means to him.
Oscar proposed to Bridget, and the two began planning a wedding. They left L.A. to head for Holland, so that Bridget could finish her studies, but Bridget returned alone a few months later, announcing that she and Oscar had broken up. Oscar presumably stayed in Holland.
