Michael Park Michael Park seeks Applause in Broadway revival

by Elizabeth Albanese

Emmy-nominated Michael Park is headed back to the stage. The actor will star opposite former One Life to Live star Christine Ebersole in the revival of Applause. Park previously appeared in Smokey Joe's Cafe.

Michael Park (Jack Snyder) hits the stage with Christine Ebersole (ex-Maxie McDermott, One Life to Live; ex-Lily Darnell, Ryan's Hope) in the latest revival of 1970 Tony Award winning smash Applause, set to run as part of the Encores! series from February 7th through February 10th at New York City Center.

Applause also stars Kate Burton, Mario Cantone, Erin Davie, Tom Hewitt, Megan Sikora and Chip Zien.

This isn't Park's first swing at Broadway glory. He played Lucky in a 1998 revival of Little Me, a Neil Simon musical, and made his Broadway debut with a memorable Elvis Presley parody in Smokey Joe's Café in 1995.

The musical Applause is based on the Bette Davis film, All About Eve, and is about the struggle between a bitter actress (Ebersole) and her backstabbing understudy (Davie). Park plays Bill Sampson, the good guy the actress and the understudy fight to win.

Park is no stranger to playing the good guy women want at any cost. He has played As the World Turns love object Detective Jack Snyder since 1997. During his 11-year run with the CBS soap, Park has been nominated twice for a Daytime Emmy.

Tickets for Applause can be purchased at the New York City Center box office, or through www.nycitycenter.org. The Newman's Own Foundation is sponsoring the Encores! 2008 season.
