Brief Character History
Tad tracked down Krystal Carey in an attempt to learn more about Adam Chandler, Jr.'s new wife, Babe. Tad pretended to be interested in Krystal, but those feelings eventually turned into something a little more. Krystal traveled back to Pine Valley and stired things up at Chandler Mansion with her less-than refined way of doing things. When srhe learned that her "baby girl" was pregnant, Krystal vowed that she was staying. Adam refused to allow her to stay in his home, but JR overruled his father. Krystal and Babe were keeping a secret from everyone: Babe's previous marriage to Paul Cramer had never been annulled, thereby invalidating her marriage to JR. Tad knew that the two women were keeping some sort of secret and set out to seduce the secret out of her. Tad eventually learned the secret, but promised Krystal that he wouldn't tell anyone so as not to upset JR, Babe or their unborn child.
Krystal thanked Tad for keeping the secret and promised to mail the papers to the court to get Babe's and Paul's marriage annulled. Krystal also learned that Babe had sex with JR's brother, Jamie Martin. When JR and Jamie requested a paternity test, Babe confided to her mother that she blackmailed Paul to fix the results of the test, so JR would be the father. Krystal told her she wouldn't tell anyone about the test, adding another secret to her slate.
As Babe's due date approached, she found herself trapped in the middle of nowhere with Bianca following a storm, Babe called Paul and asked that he fly his medical helicopter to take her and Bianca to the hospital. Paul initially agreed, but later agreed. When he arrived, he helped Babe deliver her baby. He then administered an unknown medicine to Babe leaving her groggy. During this time, Paul staged a chopper crash. When Babe awakened, Paul told her that the baby had died during the crash. However, when help arrived and Babe's family threatened harm to Paul if anything had happened to babe's child, Paul changed his story and said that Bianca's baby had been thrown from the chopper. He had hid Babe's baby in a nearby cabin and planned to give the baby boy to Kelly so that she could pass the baby off as her own. Bianca's babe was then given to Babe, leaving Bianca and her family to believe that her child had been killed. Babe named the child Elizabeth Miranda Chandler, but called her Bess for short.
After Bianca was told the news about her baby's death, she would not believe it. She even kidnapped Babe's baby, truly thinking she was taking her own baby home. Bianca returned Bess to Babe and JR, but everyone in the family was weary and cautious of Bianca, fearing she would kidnap Bess again. When Tad brought up the possibility that the baby may not be Babe's, she questioned Paul about the night of the crash. When she asked him if he could have gotten the babies mixed up, he told her no and warned her to leave him alone about the crash. When Krystal found out that Tad and his father were planning on performing a paternity test to see if the baby could possibly be Bianca's, Krystal switched the results, which showed that Babe was the mother of Bess. Krystal knew that the child who was saved from the chopper was really Bianca's, but wanted Babe to have the baby to help save her marriage and family.
After Bess was born, Tad and Krystal encouraged JR and Babe to have a real wedding, since they didn't get to the first time. During the time, Krystal and Tad developed romantic feelings for each other. Krystal told him she was not interested in pursuing a relationship with him. Instead, she tried to push him away and even make him jealous by pretending to be interested in David Hayward. Krystal thought that after what she had done to Bianca, she didn't deserve a man like Tad. By Krystal pushing Tad away, it only made him wonder if she was hiding another secret from him, even though she had told him that Babe and Paul's marriage was officially annulled.
As Krystal tried to deal with her guilt about taking Bianca's baby, Liza Chandler was snooping around trying to find the secret that Krystal was hiding. Liza found the annulment papers hidden behind a brick in the secret passageways of the Chandler mansion and immediately showed them to JR. Krystal ran in the room, frantic about the missing papers, but JR told her she was too late -- he knew the truth. JR forgave Babe and still planned to wed her.
Krystal soon began to suspect that J.R. wasn't the good guy he was pretending to be. Babe fled town with Jamie, and Krystal stayed behind in Pine Valley, enjoying a romantic relationship with Tad while volleying passes from David. She was determined to do whatever she could to protect Babe. Everything finally hit the fan when J.R., having lost Bess to Bianca after the truth about the baby's maternity came out, tracked down Babe and got his son back. Krystal agreed to take the blame for the baby switch to save Babe and went to jail, where she had a hard time of it until she befriended Di Kirby. Things continued to get worse for Krystal, but luckily for her Babe was able to bargain with Adam to have her released.
Once released, Krystal agreed to help Adam prove that the woman posing as Dixie, who was Krystal's former cellmate 'Di Kirby', was a fraud. The two went to West Virginia, where they got drunk and married. Krystal used the marriage to her advantage to help Babe be near her son. As Krystal watched her daughter fall more in love with her ex-husband, she continued to warn him, encouraging Babe not to trust him. At the same time, Krystal was fighting her own growing feelings for Adam. Krystal and Adam finally admitted that they were crazy about each other, but Krystal was still unable to truly trust J.R.
